YOU Mr Wonka for fashion inspiration this season. The sweet-toothed
eccentric played by Johnny Depp in 2005’s remake obviously spotted the
potential in big white sunglasses way before this spring/summer’s
runways…If you weren’t ready to swap safe tortoiseshell cat-eye frames for something more bonkers, just look to Rihanna. Like clockwork, our trusted beacon of coolness has jumped on the trend already, donning some Willy Wonka shades for a spot of shopping in Paris.
RiRi’s, of course darlings, are from her unofficial outfitters Chanel (she also has another pair in slightly different finish with black scalloped edges), but we’ve seen similarly oversized white-rims on the catwalks of Moschino and in store everywhere from Emporio Armani to ASOS, Jeepers Peepers to Balenciaga.
